I'm due in mid-May and just had a couple of questions regarding daycare.
1) Any suggestions of daycare centers / providers in the Silver Spring / Takoma Park area? 2) Am I right in assuming that I would probably have to put my name on a waiting list before the baby is born in order to get a spot by early August? 3) Finally, what are the "going rates" for daycare centers vs. Nannies these days? Thanks!! |
I'm also due in mid-May and we live near downtown Silver Spring. I have tried researching day care providers, and there's not a single great resource out there (that I have found). The county has a website where you can look for day care, and then you can limit it either to day care centers or to include in-home providers. I found a few ideas on there. However, to be honest, I'm also responding to this post from a self-interested perspective to see if you and I can talk about the possibility/idea of sharing a nanny, depending on where you live, what you're looking for, when, etc. We probably could not afford a nanny on our own, based on what I have heard (around $15/hr.) but could share. Let me know if you're interested in chatting.

Ellen, my account's not set up yet, so I don't think I can send you a message? (Or I might just not be the best with computers.) Anyway, my email is lesleywfierst@gmail.com, email me if you want to chat more about this. Thanks. |
Hello everyone, I am due in July and would be interested in discussing childcare options/nanny sharing. I live near downtown Silver Spring, near Forest Glen metro. |
Try searching through this website to bring up all licensed child care that accepts infants that is near your your address: http://www.mdchildcare.org/mdcfc/childcare/choose.html. I found several possibilities here.
Unfortunately, the NAEYC website is not that helpful in looking for infant care in Silver Spring, since NOAA is the only NAEYC-accredited center that takes infants and they told me (when I visited in my first trimester) that there wouldn't be a slot available until the baby turned two! |
By the way, the going rate for infant care in Silver Spring centers appears to be anywhere from 1100-1500 a month. I don't know about the cost of nannies, but it would be much higher. And, yes- it is definitely very helpful to get on waiting lists as early as possible. |
I have added a daycare finder center to my website in the left-hand side bar and an education expert has just posted an article on how to locate infant & child care in our region:
