New England Family Resorts?

Anonymous
I'm looking for recommendations for family resort places in New England -- Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire most likely. Adirondacks might be ok too, outside of N.E.

Basically we want someplace that has lots of activities for both kids (age 4 & 7) and adults & would feel sort of like we're all going to summer camp together. All-inclusive would be fine, but not required. Alternatively, just a nice resort that has lots of stuff to do in the general area. I haven't spent much time in New England so not sure where to start, we just know we want an August getaway to someplace that won't be sweltering hot & that we could drive to within say, 10 hours.

I saw a place in VT called Tyler Family Resort, which looks amazing, but is well above our price point with a required week-long stay. But it got me thinking!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Most of the YMCA camps (the residential ones) do a week of family camp at the start and/or end of the summer.

We've been looking for the same thing. We were willing to go all the way to the Adirondacks or Cape Code. But I have honed in on some place in the Hudson Valley, which seem to have a few places similar to what you are looking for. We were looking at the Hudson Valley Dude Ranch and Mohonk.

Both have lots of kid friendly activities and kids clubs and are all-inclusive. Hudson Valley appears to be a lot more kid-centric and Mohonk is a lot more expensive. We are really looking for something that is kid-friendly, but not necessarily kid-centric. The nice thing about places in the Hudson Valley is that it is close to NYC and Long Island if you wanted to do a city, mountains, and beach trip. That's what we are thinking about.

I also found the Winter Clove Inn in Round Top, NY that looks very kid-friendly with a lot of stuff for adults too and the price is right. The downside is no kids club.

I checked out Tyler in VT too, which is a lot further away than I wanted to go, but seemed to fit the bill perfectly for what we are looking for. But way too expensive.

If you want Tyler Place - look into the Memorial Day and Labor Day options as well as the early June options if you have the luxury. It's cheaper then.

The YMCA family camps are wonderful. We attended this one for years:

The climate is altogether different from what it is here - cool nights (sometimes COLD - we used to take down comforters with us), warm but not too hot during the day.

And not a camp, but a family resort:

Stowe (Vermont) runs an AMAZING summer program that isn't cheap but is available by the day.

The Samoset Resort in Maine also would fit this bill.

We have done both with a 7-9 year old and had a great time.

I love Basin Harbor in Vermont

We had a terrible experience at Basin Harbor. Cottage was not clean and the deck was moldy. Lots of "deferred maintenance" all over the property. Save your money.

I googled this the other day and came up with some lists, one of which included the Von trapp family resort in vt. My smart phone can't handle the embedded ads so I can find the links for you now.
My sister and her family stayed at Mohonk and loved it. They do run kids stay free promotions, which makes it substantially cheaper.

A place by my parent's house in NH has something close to what you want. I've never stayed there myself, but there are families who've come back year after year to the same cottage. It has the feel of the set of Dirty Dancing (without the dancing). The area is gorgeous in the summer. From here, it's just around nine -ten hours but it can take much longer depending on your driving companions and traffic
