why are these Bucknell college students so arrogant and/or stupid?

Surely they've heard of the Oklahoma case and how those students are no longer on campus. What would possess them to broadcast these racist comments on the school radio? Glad I never encouraged DC to apply to Bucknell

A private Pennsylvania college expelled three students who made racist comments and used a slur during a late-night campus radio broadcast.
Bucknell University president John Bravman said in a email that he would share the comments made by the students, a DJ and two guests, in the 'interest of transparency and candor'.
Bravman said one of the students used the N-word during the March 20 WVBU-FM broadcast. Another student said 'black people should be dead' and a third said 'lynch 'em'.

So this is not good, but unfortunately Bucknell is not alone - Oklahoma, as you say, but also UMCP, and I'm sure scores of other places. And then there is UNC, Wesleyan, and whatever other scandals that have faded from memory. And then there are murders (UVa, Yale). So you might just save your energy on the anti-Bucknell screed as long as you attribute it to just one college.

yes, but this is the first one I've heard of where it was a radio broadcast...most of the others are emails or parties. This is just so blatantly not ' private'

how long until we hear from the lawyers of the expelled students? I'm guessing the parents who paid $50,000 a year to send their kids to Bucknell would not be so happy with the expulsion. should be interesting

My take is that it's a result of the shock-jock, foul-mouth culture in which these kids grow up. They hear others, often AA, expressing themselves with complete abandon and no consequences. They wish they had this same discretion and weren't being monitored by the PC police all the time.

So they get to college, get a taste of freedom, and start mouthing off in ridiculous, insulting and unproductive ways. And then people who know nothing about how they usually interact with others come down hard on them to advance their own agenda. We sacrifice our young in many different ways.

Glad I never encouraged DC to apply to Bucknell

I have never been to Bucknell and neither has anyone I know.

That said, I do have to give credit to the president of the college for dealing with this swiftly and for making a statement that this is in no way acceptable. He did not sweep it under the rug or try to cover it up or excuse it one bit.

I would not have a problem if my child wanted to go to Bucknell.

Agree. These are just dumb kids who happen to go to Bucknell. It could happen at pretty much any school.
