s/o -- Things that hang from a car's rearview mirror

Anonymous
On the basis of the current thread pasted below, which contains the gem the "white people like ... bumper stickers," I ask you this s/o question:

1. Do you have several air fresheners, a soccer ball keychain, or little red satin pillow with yellow hanging from your rearview mirror?

2. Do you identify yourself as a person of color? Do you identify yourself as Hispanic? From the Mideast?

I see the items listed in #1 constantly in the District, usually blocking the driver's view. The driver has never once appeared to be a Euro-American, aka Caucasian, aka white people. Not in 10 years I've been observing. 'Splain?

Fuck you.

There's your explanation.

OP--you spent all that time crafting a post, complete with a thread, photos and snark. We don't see you as the clever wit you seem to see in the mirror. In fact, we see the exact opposite.

DH is Mexican. We have a rosary hanging from the rear view mirror. Not my preference, but I feel like it would be tempting fate (God?) to take it down now.

What does race have to do w/it?

I have a fake flower lei hanging from my rear view mirror.

And my daughter has her high school graduation tassel hanging from hers.

We are both Asian if that matters.....

Every time I see an old school green tree air freshener, I think of my dear, departed grandfather. He drove a land yacht of a Cadillac and it was always festooned with an air freshener.

I have always wondered this, and worried that asking would make me sound naive: remember when people used to hang CDs from their rearview mirror? Why did they do that?

As for OP's original question: I only know of one person who hangs something from her mirror. She is white, middle class, suburban.

I had a high school tassle hanging from my rear view mirror for a while when I was 17/18. I'm white.

I'm from New Orleans, shortly after I moved to DC I hung Mardi Gras beads on my rear view mirror to remind me of home. I like seeing them, my daughter has always liked the sparkle/clinking sound and as an added bonus they help me ID my car in parking lots.

I never hung anything from my rear view mirror before leaving home, moved here when I was 34. Biracial Af Am and whole lot of other things I don't really know because my Ancestry.com results haven't come back yet .

Nothing. I don't like my view obstructed even the tiniest bit.

I'm Eurasian.

took me all of 75 seconds. Some of us are quick, even when we speak in full sentences with punctuation.
