Color suggestions for a Rug for a yellow orange sofa

Anonymous
We have a yellow/orange sofa (similar in color to a tangerine or a kumquat) in a modern style. We had an orange rug under it for many years but it was way too matchy. We moved to a new home and I'd like to find a better match for the sofa. The floor is hardwood (medium brown) and the art on the wall is mostly in warm tones, although I have some cool pinks and greens here and there. I tend to like airy, bright, interiors. We have a global, eclectic style.

We don't want to spend tons of money, so don't mind getting something from Overstock or similar. We need an 8x10 size.

Right now I am thinking a greenish rug on the warmer side, a brown rug or maybe a neutral black and white. My husband found a navy rug he likes, and it's lovely, but the color choice is throwing me off. Seems too ... preppy. Also, I love oriental/ persian rugs, but that's a no-go for my husband, who thinks they are old fashioned. But I do think that type of eastern aesthetic suits our style.

I think I've thought about this so much I can't think straight anymore. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help!!!

OP can you post a picture of the couch or a link to something similar to the couch?

I think green might be too much. Would these work?

If so, you could find something similar at Overstock. Stripes are nice and modern.

OP here.

The color is something like this:

Hard to find an exact match, but that works for the exercise.

PPs, thanks for your suggestions! Will look them over more closely tonight. Please keep the suggestions coming, I appreciate the help!!

OP here.

This caught my eye:

Also, the color I posted seems to be more yellow. Sofa is a balanced blend of yellow and orange, and it looks muted in cloudy weather and bright in sunny weather.

PPs, who suggested gray, I really do love most shades of gray, but I think it won't work for this particular sofa. When we get a new sofa (when my son can control himself with markers!) I think it would work better. Thank you, though!!

not this at all.

Just curious but why? OP, said "eastern aesthetic suits our style..." and describes their taste as global and eclectic.
