response rate?

what's a good egg retrieval for a 41 yo? decent FSH (8) but estro 74; conceived naturally, and "easily" at 37, again at 40 (took longer) but ended due to a chromosonal abnormality (not age related). when could a cycle potentially get cancelled (at CFA)?

OP here -- not sure why smiley came up -- FSA was in the "eight" range; apparently typing the actual number caused an annoying smiley..

I think in general a good egg retrieval is considered 8 or more; some women have lots more, but in terms of predicting success 8 or more is good enough.

Cancellation depends on what protocal you're on - with some, you may stim longer and may not respond with many follies right away. With me, my doc decided after 7 days of stims to cancel the cycle, which I think is average.

I am a former CFA patient with a history of severe endo (which often leads to poor response). I am in my early 30s. They tried me on a regular protocol, but cancelled a couple of days before retrieval (day 8 for me) -the estrogen numbers weren't looking so great, and there were only a few follies. My RE said the combination of those two factors were his reason for cancelling. Next cycle, I was on a poor responder protocol, 6 follicles -6 eggs retrieved, and one BFP. Considering my profile, my RE was very pleased with the number and quality retrieved.

Unless you have fewer than 3 follicles, I wouldn't be too worried about cancellation. And if they do cancel, it is typically to spare you the anguish and expense of a cycle most likely to end in failure. A new protocol can really make a difference, in those cases.

I was on my third IVF cycle and age 42. It was on the verge of being canceled due to low follicle count. They saw only 4 follicles. I asked them to continue though. At ET, they ended up retrieving 8 follicles, of which 5 were mature. The other three, however, matured overnight and were ICSI'd. I got pregnant that cycle.

I credit my nutritional changes and acupuncture (2 x per week). I went to an acupuncturist who specializes in fertility treatment. I did this for three months prior to getting pregnant.

I believe that the nutr. and acu helped to improve my number and egg quality significantly.
