I have a textile I would like to hang by stringing wire through a dowel rod and hanging it on a hook. I don't really own many tools and I haven't found the people at my Home Depot to be very helpful. Does anyone know where I could buy a hollow wooden dowel rod? Metal would be fine, but I need to be able to have it cut to a particular size.
Thanks. |
If the dowel won't show how about pvc pipe? |
Hobby Lobby has them up to 90 inches wide. They're in the drapery section. |
They don't sell hollow dowel rods at Home Depot. They sell solid wood dowel rods in 4 foot lengths that you can join (use double ended drapery specific screws) to make it curtain width.
They also sell regular metal curtain rods that are hollow, and also metal closet rods that are hollow. You can borrow a hacksaw off the shelf at Home Depot to cut it in store or just buy the hacksaw and cut it at home. Hacksaw should be $10-15. If you are a woman and persuasive (persistently annoying / older / cute / flirty / younger / combination thereof) and go on a less busy period (midday, midweek - avoid weekend warriors and morning rush from the trades) then you should easily be able to get help from the mostly male staff. |
Check out the textile hangers that they sell at 10,000 Villages (online and in their stores). They look great and might work for your purpose. |
Generally, this is done by tying or wrapping the wire around each end of the dowel, not string it through. |
OP here. Thanks for the tips! |
Copper supply pipe. Painted or unpainted if it will be fully concealed in the fabric. |
