Are there any mainstream schools that are well equipped to deal with a PDD NOS diagnosis where the main trouble seems to be making peer to peer social interactions? |
Yes, Bridges (http://bridgespcs.org/index.php?page=about) PCS is a program that includes children with and without special needs. It offers therapy services on site (PT/ST/OT, etc.), but more importantly it offers very small class sizes (5 - 12 children per class and 2-3 teachers) and a broad population mix of children - many of whom have no special needs - but who serve as appropriate age developmental models in the classroom. There are teachers with a background in special education to help children learn to interact socially in warm, trusting environment. It is free to DC residents and available with tuition to non-residents. |
thanks. this is interesting but I really mean for K and up. My DD has no cognitive issues, but social pragmatic language delays. |
we live in fairfax county and the ncat class does not meet the curriculum DC needs. according to his neurologist, his social skills will only develop in a program where the focus in mainly speech and social skills. the only program I've found that meets the criteria is the school at KKI, but it is impossible to go to Baltimore on a daily basis. DC is almost 2.5 enrolled in reg preschool twice per week and receiving 1 on 1 speech a few hours per week at home. does any one has info about other schools in No VA other than public? |
