Prohibitively expensive college reunion - Darthmouth, you dissapoint me!

Anonymous
$475 per adult and $175 per child?? That is too expensive for this family. How frustrating, and frankly, inconsiderate. My undergrad offered the a la carte option for reunion weekend, so you could opt in or out for the different events and it made it much more affordable. I feel badly for my spouse. This further underscores how different he feels from his classmates who are corporate bankers and lawyers. I wish the organizers had thought a bit more inclusively in their planning process.

Op here - Opps! Error in the title "disappoint". Sorry about that!

They are all like that.

Wow! That's a lot more than either of ours.

I'm a Princeton grad and the reunions are expensive. But I usually go solo, which is more affordable. Maybe consider that? In reality, it's never as fun for the spouse and kids as the alum. Another option would be to all go up there and you and the kids don't buy wristbands. You can still see the campus, hang out with DH, and do other stuff.

Also, don't know if this is true for you, but for us you can go for free or a very nominal charge in an off-year. If you have friends the class below or above, that can work out nicely.

That seems insane. Even my Tuck reunions aren't nearly that much and with that crowd there's less need to worry about affordability. Does that include housing? My undergrad ones give the option of dorm housing but it's still way cheaper.

My Amherst reunion this year is $100/adult, $0/child. I'm sure there are add-on expenses if we want to go to certain events, but I love how affordable they made it.

Op here - nope. Housing not included, but I think you can stay on campus in the dorms for a reasonable cost. Still too expensive.

What? That doesn't include housing???

op here - no lodging included but it does include most meals. Although there was a big discussion re: hard liquor. Beer and wine. No hard liquor.

We're going to that too. See you there!

Penn isn't like that.

Interesting.
Perhaps applicants should be made aware of the cost of alum reunions - it gives a nice picture of what they expect you to do with your education.

That's ridiculously high. It shouldn't cost as much as a resort vacation. If you really want to go, ditch the family and see your friends.

that is expensive if it doesn't include housing. I like pp's idea of just getting paying for your DH, but the rest of you join just to explore campus. or have him just go alone.
