We are preparing to do a minor remodel of a small (10x10) kitchen in an older house. We are keeping the original cabinets, but would like to (1) replace the laminate floor with tile, (2) replace laminate countertops with stone and replace the sink, (3) build a new cabinet on an open wall (about 30" wide, 7' tall) and a few open shelves on another open wall, and (4) replace the dishwasher. We also want to repaint the cabinets, but we may do that ourselves to save money.
This is our first home improvement project, and aren't sure of the best way to do it. It seems too minor to get a general contractor, but maybe too involved to just have a handyman do it all. Should we just find contractors to do each piece and try to coordinate it all? I'm also interested in any guesses as to how much all of the above will cost. We're hoping to keep it under $10,000. |
Am in much the same position, so I am hoping there will be some responses.
The dishwasher you should just do yourself--go to Home Depot or Best Buy and have them install. |
FYI I reposted this in the real estate and home improvement forum, and it seems to be getting more traffic there. You might want to check that post. |
