Please help, my husband wants to move to Germantown we have a little one with autism. I finally got close to getting the edcd waiver, worried about starting over in Maryland. Please if you have done it how did you make it happen?

There are several threads on MoCo vs. FCPS. I'd definitely search the forum.

What's the purpose of the move? Is it solely for the schools? If so, I'd stay put. If there are others reasons like commute, that can affect quality of life and may be more of an issue.

Op here it is solely for the cost hubby sees. Huge homes in Germantown vs practical homes in fairfax and wonders why he should pay that much

preschooler - the pep program for asd is considered to be first-rate.

moderate-severe asd - the self-contained county autism classrooms are thought to be well-designed and well-managed by experienced staff.

mild asd with learning or behavior challenges - the district has asperger's programs from elementary to high school that have a good reputation but you will have to fight to get in.

mild asd with a child on grade level or above - you may have difficulty getting any help at all beyond basic accommodations in general education.

Remember higher taxes eat into some of that difference.

Income and property. If it makes your life easier, in that is it is a shorter commute to work and your DC's doctor's appointments and generally makes your life easier, then go for it.

FWIW a lot of the private special needs schools tend to be on this side of the river.
