Chincoteague for spring break?

Anonymous
we are thinking of going to Chincoteague / Assateague Island for spring break. Is there enough there to fill a 4 day vacation? That means two full days, plus one day on either side for the drive. this is with a toddler and a preschooler, plus two parents.

We took our 2 and 4 year old kids for a week in August and it was lovely. Several half-days at the beach on Assateague, a boat tour, pony rides at the touristy but cute pony center, a trip to Ocean City, a stop at the visitor center on Wallops Island. The wild horses are really cool, and there's a lot of fun local culture around them. We rented a small cottage by the main street and walked over to the really cute coffee shop/house at the main corner in the mornings. We loved it, and it was half the price of last year's trip to Bethany Beach.

It might be cold. That's the only down side. You won't be able to swim.

We did it once. The bad thing it is a little bit cold. The good thing there is no crows.

I think it would be a quiet 4 days, and pretty low-key. Not sure what is open in the off season. The pony center is open, probably, but I would call in advance.

Most of the restaurants will be open, certainly, and the shopping. The WallopsVisitor Center will be open.

The FWS and NPS visitor centers will be open, but I doubt they'd have any scheduled programs. But with kids that age you could certainly spend half a day. It will be cold, so you won't spend much time at the beach itself - probably pretty gusty. But you can definitely drive around a bit and look at the ponies and birds and the views will be spectacular.

So, if I liked quiet, peaceful vacations I'd do it. I'd also do it if you were in a house. With kids that age I wouldn't do a hotel, because you will spend too much time in that one room with kids who are trying to or are sleeping.

Ha! I was wondering what the deal was with the crows.

Me too. I was thinking maybe I don't want to go there if the crows are that big of an issue! Thanks for the clarification.

You also said you'd recommend against staying in a hotel with young kids, does that mean you'd advise camping? (I'm not OP but mine are the same ages.)

Can you recommend cabins? Also, which side are you recommending?
