Williamsburg for 4- and 6-year-old

Anonymous
Thinking of heading to Williamsburg for a long weekend in April. Any recommendations for things to do and places to stay with kids in this age range? Is Historic Williamsburg itself sufficiently engaging? For how long? Should we plan other activities? Thanks!

My kids did not particularly enjoy Colonial Williamsburg this summer, when they were 4 and 7. I sure wish that they had...we just didn't find it suitable and engaging for kids that age, and we tried to follow their "kids plan".

They did enjoy Busch Gardens. Also, Jamestown Settlement (the one with the replicas of the ships and the boats, not the National Park with the actual dig site), was a huge hit with the kids, with lots of hands-on activities.

Our mistake may have been that we visited Colonial Williamsburg after going to Busch Gardens and Jamestown, and Williamsburg couldn't begin to compare to those in terms of "entertainment value" for young kids.

We've never stayed at Great Wolf Lodge (indoor waterpark), but some friends of ours have given that excellent reviews.

We were just at GWL this past weekend and my 4yo had a blast. You could stay there so the kids have something to look forward to after a day at Colonial Williamsburg.

We go once or twice a year and a can't miss component of our trip is a meal at Food for Thought Restaurant. It's fantastic. Yummmmmmm
