Rate your AAP center??

My 2nd grader DS is in-pool for AAP in Willow Springs. But we are planning to move to a diff. area for a bigger house.

Current AAP families can you provide name of your AAP center and how would rate from 1-10.

Any inputs are appreciated

I guess there is no harm in asking for inputs from other folks. There are multiple factors we will be looking at.

OP, you also need to find out what centers are actually accepting new students and when. For instance, last year I believe Louise Archer's center program was closed to new students (not sure if that was incoming third graders or what) because it was so crowded, so kids whose parents had figure on the kids attending LA for AAP had to send those kids elsewhere (maybe Colvin Run, I'm not sure). In other words-- you can try to pick a house based on a particular school or center or anything else, but circumstances can change on you. I've heard that certain other centers were or are extremely crowded, so be aware of that.

For what it's worth to you, my kid's experience at Archer was excellent.

If you pick a home based on an AAP center location, check with that school and FCPS about the projected growth of that center and its base school. There are no crystal balls or perfect predictions. But you need to be aware that things can change.

How about narrowing down the areas you are looking at based on your other multiple factors- let's assume all the centers are great as well as many level IV schools as well - 27 in all. then there's MS and HS - so pick your top 3 towns?

It was closed to transfers from out of the base district. Meaning new 4th 5th and sixth graders. 3 was fine. It might be reopened now...as the redistricting has reduced the overcrowding.

WS AAP is good. Rating -? I won't even attempt. BTW, your kid is not deciding between Harvard and MIT. This is elementary school.

A lot of people LOVE Greenbriar West, but it is way too overcrowded and it is an older school. Doubt you would find many large houses that feed there directly anyway.

If her kid gets all 4s, the teacher speaks wonders of him and scored through the roof on the NNAT and Cogat, a parent would assume they would get into the program.

Agreed. You should have a lot more important factors to sift through to decide where to live.

yep. we have a great AAP center in our neighborhood, but please don't move here. AAP strivers aren't popular in these parts. pick the neighborhood you like, plan to become involved in the school where your children go and it will end up being the best school for you.
