First time working with a designer

Anonymous
We are hiring a designer for the first time ever, to help us to a soup-to-nuts in one specific room. We have a set budget that I think is fairly generous, though I'm sure many people could spend twice as much. The designer we've selected is very focused on budgets and asked me specifically what it was, said it sounded appropriate and that we would track the budget through the process. I am nervous about the $$ involved but do trust her on the budget. I am wondering more generally, are there tips for working for the first time with a designer? Anything we can do as the customer to smooth the process and make things work efficiently, and to help maximize our satisfaction with the end product?

Be open to ideas that had never crossed your mind
After you've considered the new ideas, if you have reservations, bring them up
If you don't like something and there's no way you're changing your mind, save time and say so
If something is too expensive, too fragile, whatever, tell her
If the budget is starting to be a problem, ask for suggestions, and ask it would help if you did some of the looking

Have fun! It is really nice to have a pretty room, especially if other parts of the house are coated in a thin layer of Legos.
