| I have a nibble for a job at a non profit. I need to know what kind of money they make to know what to ask for. I tried searching online for their statements, but could only find pay sites that would give me the detailed information of what people are earning. I can get general info only. I seem to recall that this should be publicly available info? Or maybe its just the general info that is public (budget, total salaries of all employees, but not individual salaries)? |
| Form 990 should give you that type of information about a non profit. |
|
The 990 gives you the salary of the highest paid employees, but not everyone. So it's not all publicly available info.
I'd go to Guidestar for the 990. Check glassdoor or similar for info on the non profit. |

| The 990 should have at a minimum the pay of the top management official and top financial official of the non-profit. They are available for free from Guidestar.com and often on the non-profit's own website. You have to set up a free account for Guidestar to log in. |
| OP here. I have a guidestar account. They want you to pay to see details on the 990! I can only see one expense figure called "administration". The top salaries I have to PAY to see- and its $125!!!! |
|
OP again- charity navigator has way more detail- thanks 11:39!!!
|
| Except they arent listed there. Rats. |
Your public library might have a free subscription, mine does-but you can only use it on-site. |
| I was able to see the full 990 on Guidestar with a free account. If you are looking for salaries below top management, you aren't going to find those on a 990 anyway. Glassdoor is probably a better place for that anyway. |
| Did you open the actual pdf of the 990? It should be on pages 7-8 (or in the footnotes if too many to fit). |
Truth. I used 990s as a rough guide to see if they could pay me. If the main financial person is making 50k, for example, they won't pay 60k for a staff accountant. |
