If your daughter has a bunk bed ...

I'm considering buying a bunk bed for my six year old daughter and hope that it would be her bedroom furniture through high school. Our current bedtime routine includes me reading to her in her bed, snuggling for a few minutes and then she goes to sleep. Obviously, this won't be the situation through high school! But I'm wondering, if your daughter is a bit older (3rd grade, middle school, I don't know?) do you ever want to cuddle with her (or does she want to cuddle with you) and you regret her being in a bunk bed? I just don't see climbing up top with her! Of course she can come in to my room, etc., but I'm just wondering.

You could always let her sleep on the lower bunk sometimes, and do your cuddling there.

Yes, probably. I should have added, the bunk bed sets I've seen are mostly rated to 200 pounds on top (and more on the bottom). So it's just not safe for us both to be up top! If you have a brand of real wood furniture that you like, please let me know! I like the styles like this with steps instead of a ladder, though this particular one isn't solid wood. http://www.hayneedle.com/product/ne-kids-school-house-stairway-loft-bed-white.cfm

Both of my children have bunk beds in their rooms, they are 5 and 9. I love cuddling with them before bed! We usually do it on the couch while reading books as a part of our bedtime routine.

Both my girls have a full bed underneath a twin bunk bed. Also, after the initial excitement of getting their beds, they mostly sleep on the bottom. Thirdly, when they first got their beds and always wanted to sleep on top, we cuddled on the bottom and then they'd climb up before I left the room.

Our bunk bed is rated 350 on the top. We bought it at Belfort Furniture in Sterling. FWIW, I have a 5th grade son and he sleeps in the bottom bunk and he still asks for cuddles.

We got Bunk Bed Kings too because they had the highest possible weight for the top bunk. This was for our beach house so it's possible at some point that there would be adults up there.

We have the loft style so no bed underneath.

I did get a Pottery Barn Teen Double Lounger and we sit on that reading books each night before she goes to bed.

I cuddle with my 5yo son in the top bunk. The two of us together are pushing 250.

We got ours from IKEA. Don't remember the weight rating, but we do cuddle time up and down. Not a big deal.

I have an 8th grader who still loves the occasional cuddle. It's kind of a pain to climb up there and hang out with another virtually full-sized adult but it's worth it. She has a metal loft bed with a weight limit of 400lbs that has held up quite well.
