Ignorant question about finding jeans that fit properly

Anonymous
I work in a very conservative office where I mostly wear skirt/jackets or dress/jacket, then after work I come home and change into sweat pants or yoga pants. As a result, I've always had very little in the way of casual, cute weekend clothing, and am trying to change that. So I've been trying to find jeans that fit and having no luck for the following reasons:

--I'm not overweight (size 6) but I have a poochy flabby potbelly (a subject for another thread in the fitness forum!) and am short-waisted. Every pair I try on, if it fits in the hips, it digs into the stomach leaving muffin tops and is uncomfortable and unflattering. Any pair that is large enough to where the rise fits the stomach comfortably, is huge everywhere else. Does what I am looking for exist, or do I have to get them altered? Can you even alter jeans? TIA.

You can alter jeans. The best thing that I found that fit me when I was in your shoes, was Gap long and lean. Not sure if they still making them. The absolutely best thing, I lost my weight and toned my stomach ( I am not ripped, but no muffin top). Now every jeans I try fit gorgeous.

Thank you OP. I have the exact same issue--lean legs but a larger waist.

Can others answer whether it is better to get a larger pair that fits my waist and tailor down the legs or get a pair that fits me in the leg and have some slits cut in the waist with elastic sewn in to expand the waist? I never show my waistband so I'm not worried about marring the waistband of the jeans.

To the PP, you are ridiculous. If it were as easy as just losing the muffin top, no one would have one. I exercise 4x a week and am very fit and muscular everywhere except my darn jelly belly.

You can still get them online!

I alter all of my jeans. If you invest in a good pair (I live J Brand which run about $150), I believe in making sure they are perfect. I'm also a size 6, but with larger legs and a tiny waist.

This is me too OP! I'm very interested in this thread. I'm tired of jeans cutting into my stupid belly.

Question for those suggesting alterations... do I buy bigger jeans and get them altered to fit my legs? Or buy the smaller size and somehow get the waist expanded? I have never had anything altered before and had no idea you could make things bigger instead of just smaller.

OP, get a higher waist jean with some stretch, a curvy pair like the jcrew matchstick, or toothpick. I forget what they are called. You can wear them with boots, flats, ankle boots, and you are comfy with a little coverage for the belly.

You can exercise 24 times a week and still have a belly fat. It is 80-85% of what you eat, and not how often you excersices. I've seen people loosing muffing top without exercising, just correcting their diet.

Old Navy Diva cut. Nothing fancy, but they are cheap enough that you can order a pair and it's not a huge loss if they don't fit, right? They stretch a bit after you first wear them, so get them, wear them around the house for a day, and see if you like the fit.

You could try some higher waist styles. Jbrand and Paige are actually great for this. Lower waist actually accents a pooch, which is annoying. You can also alter denim, and it is definitely worth it to have jeans that you are excited to wear.

This is why I don't wear jeans. I've lost all the baby weight and have no muffin top or belly, but women's jeans are just plain uncomfortable. Men have comfy jeans; ours are too tight no matter what shape, IMO. I wear pants from Athleta (pants for everyday, not yoga pants as everyday pants) and leggings with tunics.

I have a less than perfect shape too and my friend suggested that I go to Denim Bar next to the Pentagon City Mall. That place is amazing.

I had a sales person helping me who picked our a whole bunch of different brands that she felt would work for my shape. I found 2 different brands/cuts that I loved. They will also alter your jeans for you there if you need them shortened or nipped at the waist.

The people working there were impressively knowledgeable about the different brands and cuts.

OK but in the meantime OP and some of us have to actually have something to wear for lunches and the park. Jesus, these kinds of responses never make sense- or maybe just maybe she doesn't have the energy or time or care to invest in having an aesthetically perfect body if she's healthy in all other regards.

You are sound angry. Having hanging layer of fat in the mid section is not healthy, even if you are size 0. It doesnt' take additional time or energy to reduce your portion. And no one have aestheticlly perfect body, there is no such a thing.
