Best dog breeds/mixes? s/o

Anonymous
I just finished reading through the "Worst Dog" post and started wondering which breeds/mixes people think are the best. DH, DD and I will get a dog in the late summer/early fall but are still researching breeds/mixes.

Thanks!

Westie
Maltese
Cockapoo

Yes, I like smaller, white dogs. I'm a dog-racist. But I like these because they're easily trainable, good with kids, don't shed.

Love our cockapoo. She's my first dog, but in the 9 years I've had her, I also have grown fond of Wheaton Terriers.

LOVE my Maltese. Low energy, but playful, smart enough that she was easily potty trained, but dumb enough to be content with hanging out with us (smart dogs get bored and chew), 100% devoted to us. No shedding, hypoallergenic

I love the breed and I'm on my 5th Maltese.

I forgot to mention- friendliest breed I've ever worked with. This dog would sooner get hurt, than bite or growl especially at kids.

Cockapoo! Love ours. She's so sweet, can hold her pee forever and doesn't shed.

If allergies and size are not an issue, golden retriever. I don't think there's even room for debate on this. Very trainable and very gentle and loving, less hyper and chewy than labs and spaniels. (I'm sure someone will post about the one crazy inbred golden they knew .... Of course every breed has its problem children, but if you are generalizing by breed and want good temperament and trainability, it is goldens hands down.).

Beagles and bloodhounds tend to bay and to wander, so you need to make sure youre prepared for that. Beagles can dig their way under any fence tracking a smell.

I was thinking the same thing. We have a golden and what a sweet dog she is. I would recommend my mutt too but she's a mix of so many dogs..not sure what to recommend.

I think any breed dog can be wonderful if you put in the time, attention and love that all dogs need.

What qualities are you hoping to have in your dog?

Our beagle does not dig at all. Ever. Never seen her dig. She will wander however so can't ever be off leash. But she's the best!
