Adirondack chairs

Anonymous
DH wants Adirondack chairs for the walk-out patio. I'd like to surprise him in a month or so with two chairs. However, I don't know what kinds are good, and what's a decent price. We briefly looked at patio furniture last summer after we bought our house, and we were intrigued by the plastic, all-weather options. Realistically, these chairs will sit outdoors from March until November, so they will be exposed to all elements. Do I want hardwood? Or plastic (nice plastic, not $5 chairs)? Should I expect to pay $200-300 per chair or is that too much? Can you recommend places to buy or styles you liked or disliked? Thanks.

Doesn't ll bean carry them? Those would be good quality.

I love them, and do not love the plastic look. Which means spending the money for teak, or making sure the painted ones are good high quality, that won't mildew. Maybe paint your own, and have mildewcide mixed into the paint? (They will do this for you at the paint store--we did it for our bathrooms.) More work, but you get to pick your color.

I think for good ones, you're looking in the hundreds. We bought cheap ones, and I regretted it. They looked crappy after a couple of seasons. Also, white was the wrong color--really showed imperfection.

LL Bean has very good quality ones. Join their email list for sales and coupon codes, or just check their website - they have 10% off pretty often and occasionally more.

I don't have these, but these might be good:

I've had good luck with their other outdoor products.

I got some outdoor rocking chairs from Hayneedle and they are good quality. They're having a sale now on all their Adirondack furniture.

LL Bean are the best and most comfortable.

For those recommending the LL Bean ones, which ones do you have? It looks like they have them in a couple of different materials. Thanks!

We got these at Costco last year and they are incredibly durable and solid. They have withstood the weather elements very, very well.

Google "Lifetime Adirondack Chair" for sources if Costco doesn't have them now.

I have the LLBean painted ones. They've lasted well for 10 years (we bring them inside in winter). Very comfortable.

Those look nice. Thanks.

The Lifetime ones look nice too (esp. if Costco has them again at $109). Lifetime posters, do they come in any other color, or are they paintable? Do they feel like plastic, or do they feel like wood?

Check Craigslist. Sometimes there are retired guys who make chairs, picnic tables etc for a decent price and can customize turn. Worth looking.
