I'm too poor to go away the entire spring break and my wife cannot take off the entire week regardless. I think April 4 is too cold for local beaches, even OBX type beaches. Agreed?
What would be a decent 3 night driving trip? Deep Creek Lake? Nashville? Williamsburg? WHAT?????? |
|
What do you like to do? History, big cities, relaxing at a beach?
I love history sort of trips and really have enjoyed Wiliamsburg, Lancaster, Gettysburg, Philly. I can't just sit on my vacations, so I can't help you on the relaxing/sitting kind of vacation. |
|
Isn't easter 4/6? I'd think lots of things would be open.
I agree that Williamsburg would be nice though. |
| I could probably get down to Charleston/Savannah (MAYBE Jacksonville) for a 4 day weekend. too far? |
| With kids? Ages? |
| Second Charleston or Savannah. Or Myrtle Beach, but it probably won't be warm enough for swimming. |
|
How old are your kids?
April will be likely too cold for local ocean or lake swimming so I'd focus on land activities your family enjoys, heated pools, hot springs, wildlife tours, mountain hikes, historic cities, museums, tennis, biking, golf if you are into that. Seems like a great time to visit anywhere has that nice flowers and landscaping. Asheville could be anywhere from the 40s to the high 60s. Cherry blossom peak prediction up in DC is April 11 or so, so somewhere gardeny down south might be good. Charleston, Savannah, SC/GA beaches? It's a very long drive to FL, even to Amelia Island, for a long weekend... Book rooms now - we drove down on spring break Saturday and got shut out of rooms from Florence to the FL line, there's also a music festival in Savannah that runs to Apr. 4. We had to stay at a not nice motel near Ft. Stewart just to get some sleep on the way down. http://www.savannahmusicfestival.org/ |

Williamsburg is really pretty and there is def. 3 days worth of stuff to do esp. if you have a nice hotel, Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Mariner's Museum (USS Monitor) & VA Living Museum, Virginia Air & Space Center, Poquoson fishing, kayaking or canoe rental, Busch Gardens will be open.
This place has vacancies Thurs & Fri, always wanted to check it out https://innattabbscreek.com/ and you can stop at the Rappahanock Oyster Co.'s restaurant on the way... |
| NYC would be my first pick. |
|
NYC
Philly VA Beach/Norfolk area |
|
NYC or Williamsburg
Not enough to do in Deep Creek off season |
Deep Creek will be very cold at that time of year, don't go there. I try to head in a somewhat Southerly direction but close to here. Natural Bridge, VA has a safari, zoo and natural bridge or the zoo in Richmond and Maymount are fun plus there is a Science Museum there. Nashville is too far away to drive for the weekend. Look closer to home. |
| Massanutten Resort would be fun and do the water park there. |
|
I would do Kings Dominion the first day and then drive down to Richmond and stay the rest of the time. That's what we plan to do.
Or go to Philly, plenty to do and see. Or if you don't actually live in DC, I'd pick a DC hotel and do the museums and get out on the Mall, maybe do a boat cruise from Georgetown or even the Spirit of Washington boat. Similar idea to do Baltimore, there's plenty there as well. |
| might go to Chuck Town. |
