| I'm talking about a public school classroom that has two kids with severe peanut allergies. This is not one of those "manufactured on shared equipment" snacks where I can understand a parent forgetting to read the label or missing the fine print. This was a snack mix containing peanuts! |
| How are we supposed to answer this? |
| They forgot? |
| Wasn't paying attention? |
|
Ok, my kid is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, but that would not bother me. He knows better than eat someone elses snacks that have nuts. he has been taught to ask and if not sure not to eat.
get over yourself, people can eat what the hell they want including "GASP" peanuts |
| Parent normally in charge of such things is away and other parent is trying to do the best s/he can. |
| Maybe the babysitter packed it, or the kid did? |
| Their own kid was packing their lunchbox? Gasp! |
|
OP, you should lynch him.
That's why you send an EpiPen to school. |
| Maybe the school should send out a reminder notice about it being peanut-free? |
|
You mean in their OWN lunchbox, not meant to share?
|
| It's probably something they eat all the time at home, and in the morning rush they just got absentminded and threw it in the lunch bag. Or maybe a kid slipped it in. Or maybe grandparents were visiting and packed lunch and aren't used to the rules and forgot. I've almost sent granola bars with nuts before but always caught it at the last minute. I understand being upset, and I'm sure the parents feel terrible, but I seriously doubt they packed peanuts out of spite or willful disobedience. I hope no one's child got hurt, and if they didn't, I would really let it go this time as long as the teacher talks to the parent. If someone's child had a reaction I'm sure they feel truly awful. |
| Temper your outrage, OP. Seriously. |
| You're furious though? It's not a good thing but this is not something to be furious about. |
| I always wonder how these kids will function in the real world if they can't be in the same room as a peanut? In restaurants, food courts, friend's houses? |
