Are there preschools in the DC metro area that have slots for or focus on children with developmental delays (eg, language or social delays, Asperger's, etc.). Thanks for any recommendations. |
Piggybacking on above...interested in schools that aren't NCRC or St Columba's (already know about those and got rejected by one already).
Thanks. |
My daughter will be two in July and she is starting the preschool class in Arlington. There are three two year old classrooms for special needs kids. There is a PT, OT and speech therapist, as well as teachers that specialize in developmental delays. The maximum class size is 8 students, and there are also two aides. There is also a program for three year olds. We have visited the classrooms, and they are very impressive. According to all our therapists, the program gets great results for the little ones. Hope this helps.

St Columba's does really well for kids with mild delays. There is a public program in DC (forgot the name Banks?) that has a preschool program for kids with more severe delays |
Check out Bridges Public CHarter School |
I'm really interested in finding out a school that has a strong curriculum for children with delays. my DC has mixed receptive-expressive language disorder, and goes to regular pre school a couple of times per week and also receives speech and OT at home, we are also doing 12 hours of ABA. his progress is remarkable and his Dr mentioned in our last visit that he will benefit of a class where they focus on social skills and language. we live in Fairfax and they offer a non categorized class, have not visited the schools yet, but would like to have other options. I work in DC so could use a school there or Arlington,

Bridges Public Charter School. (http://bridgespcs.org/index.php?page=about) It is designed to provide an exemplary inclusive education for children with and without special needs. The focus is on early education and has received a grant for early literacy. It is free to DC residents, but also available to non-residents paying tuition. They offer ST/OT/PT & counseling on site. |
Children's Learning Center (CLC) in Rockville is a mainstream program that does a really nice job with children with special needs. |
I don't remember what it's called, but the speech pathology dept. at the University of Maryland at College Park runs a preschool program for kids with language delays. It's set up so that a child can attend half days, or several days a week, and attend a mainstream school as well. |
This sounds ideal. What school is this? What is the name? Do you have any contact info? Thank you. |
