That’s my neighborhood. They are moving us to South Lakes. The little section you see going to Oakton from Chantilly is a a few streets in Chantilly Highlands, who I know are not going to be happy.

Yes, it's part of Chantilly Highlands zoned to Oak Hill/Franklin/Chantilly now.

Are they proposing to turn Oak Hill into a three-way split feeder to Chantilly, Oakton, and Westfield???

They're also turning Lee's Corner into a big split feeder with chantilly and Westfield. I believe most (all?) from there currently go to Chantilly.

What about that person last fall with the “leaked maps”

Also, the letter says they calculated capacity from the annual CIP. Annual CIP has Woodson and Edison projected to be overcapacity in a few years.... am I missing something? If enrollment changes by a year from now and schools are no longer over capacity, would they adjust?

Looks like they are proposing moving kids from Centreville and Westfield to Southlakes

Not sure I understand your Centreville part. Looks like they are sending some/much of the Floris area that was assigned to South Lakes in 2008 back to Westfield. The maps are hard to read with some of the roads not clear.

I think it's actually they are proposing to move more of Floris from Westfield to South Lakes. But, yes, the maps are hard to read!

Bradley Farm HOA south of West Ox rd (Floris/Oak Hill) plus Emerald chase HOA (Oak Hill) moving from Westfield to South Lakes.

Not bad.

A lot of people come on here to troll and spread rumors. A lot of rumors spread in real life/in person too. At the community meeting at Lake Braddock, there was a lot of “my neighbor’s hairdresser’s daughter in law works for Gatehouse and she said xyz.”

CIP 2029-2030 won’t be accurate to look at now. They moved a chunk of Holmes MS from Edison to Annandale during the split feeder. They also removed some from Woodson to Fairfax HS during the attendance islands. So they are now at better capacity.

No, this is how these people talk.

Nobody talks like that except your child’s medical providers who don’t care to learn the parents names. People don’t walk around calling their friends “momma.” 😬

Have you been in some of the neighborhood parents groups - I had to leave mine because there were so many people calling each other momma, it was so cringeworthy.

Our neighborhood group has been really civil and informatitive.

I don't think there is any Westfield at Oak Hill.

Are you sure those streets are Chantilly Highlands? It’s hard to tell without street names, but I thought maybe those were the townhomes and smaller homes right near the shopping center in Franklin Farm? Which would keep Franklin Farm split between Chantilly and Oakton with the added bonus (in the school board’s mind) of possibly balancing SES a little bit.

DP
I too am confused with this. I thought the same thing, but am now trying to figure it out with the Oak Hill boundary map.

Not PP but it looks like ladybank lane and stome heather to me? So awkward.

That's what I am thinking. Maybe if they had looked at a real map they would have understood there is not an outlet from Ladybank.

I thought one of the goals was not to split neighborhoods. This is a real fail.
I think it leaves the townhouses behind Giant at Chantilly and just takes Ladybank/Stone Heather?
I'm not sure it takes the townhouses behind Giant. Looks to me like they are still at Chantilly.

The map looks like Ladybank Ln and Stone Heather Ct going to Oakton HS. It doesn't make sense to split those kids off from the rest of their ES and MS friends. There is no connection between them and the homes across the Fairfax County Parkway. It seems like Thru got Chantilly HS down to 106% with the other moves and needed to find some group of kids to make it 105% for the meeting deadline. Maybe this particular change will be dropped.

Also from the page:

“With community meetings starting on May 15, the committee members tested out the interactive tool, which will be used to support the upcoming meetings. The community meetings will be hybrid, so that families and members of the community can attend in person or virtually.”

Interesting that instead of starting new, they used the prior fixes from the other two meetings.

And yes, this just goes further to confirm that they are going to tinker around the edges and not move many kids.

Well I guess all the parents on freaking out about their high schoolers can just calm the F down.

-Carson mom who is still in shock that they didn't touch our school (except that tiny chunk of Chantilly Highlands they are now sending to Oakton)

Looks like the Forestville ES families can breath a sigh of relief. Their organizing paid off in the end.

The leaked map person got the elementary school correct (Hunt Valley) but the high school wrong (originally thought to be IB Lewis, but ended up AP South County)

My feeling is that what she originally leaked was accurate, but the overwhelming parent pushback got the original plan canned and redirected to SoCo.

FCPS is doing a trenendous disservice to Lewis for insisting upon kerping that school IB instead of switching it to AP. They are also shortchanging those families by not renovating the school to make it comparable to every other FCPS high school in the surrounding area.

High schools where kids may be reassigned to other schools possibly without grandfathering under Thru Consulting proposals:

Centreville
Chantilly
Edison
Fairfax
Lake Braddock
Marshall
McLean
Mount Vernon
South County
Westfield
West Potomac
West Springfield
Woodson

School with by far the longest commutes where no kids would be reassigned under Thru Consulting proposals:

Langley

The courage of Dr. Reid and the School Board is truly impressive, lol.
