| Hi. Has anyone been wait listed for grade 4 at STA and heard yet of acceptance? |
| I am virtually certain they don't go to their WL until after the decision date. Even if there might be space in one grade, they have to look at their overall enrollment numbers so they really need to wait and see what the response is of all grades (or at least all of the Lower School grades). Hang in there and good luck. |
| from reading these posts seems like there could be a huge domino effect in the coming weeks opening seats all over. |
It doesn't work that way for the most part. Schools admit more kids than they need, in anticipation that not everyone will enroll. Going to the WL happens but it's rare and a bit random to the outsider observer (just because a girl declines doesn't mean they offer another girl a spot). |
| We are really unsure what to do now...son on wait list. We live out of state and want to relocate. Better to keep him in his excellent public school and try again in two years for a grade 6 spot? |
+1. There won't be a huge domino effect. Perhaps a teeny, tiny little ripple, but popular schools will only admit a few people off the WL across all grades. |
+2 Unfortunately the "where are you giving up a spot?" posts just give false hope to people. Every school over-admits. Every single one. This is not their first rodeo-- they have a pretty good idea what percentage will accept the spot. It will vary a bit each year, but not by much. |
| the deadline for acceptance is 3/18. Just have to wait until then. I wonder how many folks here put payment down at more than one school while they decide. This whole admissions process feels like a giant slap in the face. My son tests at 99 percentile, has a straight A report card, plays an instrument in an orchestra and has perfect pitch, plays hockey, football, and is on a competitive swim team. That's a lot for an 8 year old, third grader. His interview was fine they said. They told me all of the consoling things one would expect. Still, I find this insulting. |
Just know that your kid is amazing, and that the process is flawed, so much that lots of amazing kids don't get in. It truly sucks. |
| I've been WL and no news yet. |
We're in similar situation, excellent public school and good teacher. At least we have that. |
OP, sounds like you have a fantastic kid. He might be competing against other kids who are extremely bright, club team athletes who's parent may be an Alum. Just sayin' Washington is a VERY competitive town. It may be easier to get a clerkship than to get one of these spots. |
