Are there REALLY wait lists?

My child was waitlisted at two schools. Is this for real or is it just a nice way of rejecting you. How many people do they waitlist?

It depends on which school.

I have friends who have gotten off the NPS wait list in years past. Have no idea about the numbers this year. I honestly don't know if they do a nice reject or not - "due to the large numbers of siblings, parishoners and applicants this year, we simply do not forsee..."

If you aren't a sib, and have no connections to the school, the odds are against you because of the small class sizes. Name recognition might help, even if you're only famous for D.C. Money would help, but it needs to be more than just law firm partner money to catch their attention. Increasingly, diversity is becoming an issue as they're often criticized for their "cookie cutter" look. But really your best hope is the so-called domino effect. If the Beauvoir/St. Pats wait list moves, so too will the NPS list, as NPS acceptees will "trade up" for one of these schools.

Sorry, PP here-- and we had no connections, are not rich, are not famous, etc. And my children are not minorities. So don't give up hope-- if you are truly interested in NPS, tell them, and let them know you would accept a slot if offered.

Does anyone know if Sheridan's waitlist is real or are they another school that practices the soft rejection approach? TIA
