Why are thin mints the most popular Girl Scout cookie?!

Anonymous
The Girl Scouts just started selling their cookies again. The woman who took my order told me that thin mints are the most popular cookie and account for 40% of their sales.

But ... I don't get it! The Samoas are SO much better! right?!

But there are so few samoas in a package! Put the thin mints in the freezer- yum!

For us, you get more cookie for your buck.

Second, I can use the thin mints for recipes (crumbles on top of icecream, crushed for pie crust, "mint-hint" with hot coca, etc).

Third, they freeze much better, IMHO, than the others.

Fourth, they're not as unhealthy as, say, the Tagalongs.

Fifth, they are part of the original cookies that have been sold for generations so there's a nostalgic element.

FWIW, Samoas and Tagalongs round out the other 2 top sellers.

Thin mints are soooo addictive. I love Samoas, too, but when I get them I eat the whole package at once. The thin mints last longer.

The bolded is a lie. Nothing is better than a thin mint, except for 2 thin mints, or a whole sleeve of thin mints!

What's not to love? mint, chocolate, crunchy. Not as overly sweet as a samoa, in my book. Thin Mints 4-eva!

I think it's actually the Trefoils. But maybe it depends on the community that you are selling to. Since removing the trans fat they all taste pretty disgusting.

trefoils?? pish posh! op, samoas are my very favorites - BUT dear spouse and many others I know hate coconut. thin mints appeal to (almost) all which i guess is why they are the winners - i do love thin mints

ps - and why aren't mounds the most popular candy?!

You used to not. Grasshoppers are a relatively recent grocery find. When I was a kid, Thin Mints were IT.

No it's the Tagalongs. Trefoils are shortbread and they are pretty good but not a door buster in terms of sales.

Thin mints are best sellers because they have universal appeal. There are few aversions to chocolate and mint. Plus, the mint is appealing.

Samoas have coconut, which many people dislike (including me). Plenty of people dislike peanut butter, or only want it in moderation. And trefoils are just boring. Who wants to spend $4 a box on butter and flour??

Pass that sleeve of thin mints, please!
