Private & Independent Schools
... anyone hear from them yet?
No and I'm waiting. I wouldn't be surprised if a letter went out saying that they had no spots! What class are you waiting on? I'm waiting on K.
We got letter today. It says DD waitlisted for K but I don't think that waitlist moves. I met a couple at the school during the tour and they said that their DC has been on the wait list over a year and still waiting (they applied for Pre-K). I think it was a waste of time applying. I also think it was rude that when we had our observation at the school the Director of Admissions or anyone for that matter, never even came out to meet our children. Just rude. I wasn't going to attend even if she did get accepted just because I thought that was extremely rude. I know other parent's were really turned off by it too.
Funny, when I was growing up, Holy Trinity was the end all and be all. At least for we Catholics. Now, it barely gets a mention. Sad.
I loved it and am totally planning on applying next year. Although their admissions process and people are atrocious, its a great school.
I know what you mean. I thought it would be a great school because I like a Jesuit education, having one myself. But I hear they take applications knowing that they will only pull from the Parish (which is fair but then don't take applications). I refused to join the Parish just to get my child in. I like my current Parish and will remain loyal to it. We were accepted at two excellent schools, although they are not Catholic (boo hoo).
Interesting -- perhaps you grew up after I did? In the 80s when my brother and I went to Holy Trinity, we really weren't very happy there (hey, playground was out in the street, created by blocking it off with cones at either end -- woohoo). Having recently moved from further north, I was shocked at how the older boys would have genuine fist fights and the girls in 7th and 8th grade talked about sex constantly. |
Gosh I'm glad we decided againt Holy Trinity. That is terrible to even think about those things in elementary school..let alone a Catholic one! So much for Catholic values. Yes, I am Catholic so don't think I'm being negative againt Catholics! I really did not get a good vibe there for whatever reason. We live in the City and everyone knows DC is very diverse. Yet, I saw maybe one or two kids of "color" there (I don't know if they were black, hispanic, Indian, etc). We are white but would like our child to be surrounded by a school similiar to our world or atleast city. It was the only school where it was very obvious to us that diversity didn't matter.
Sad to report it's pretty bad now, 21:03. I work on the next block and walk through their recess back and forth each day to get lunch. The kids are truly terrible to each other, especially the girls. I can't tell you how many times I've seen groups of girls ridicule another so badly that I've almost snapped. I'm not suggesting any place is much better, but it is not what Catholic school was like when I was growing up and it makes me sad on a regular basis.
