Petoskey, Michigan - anyone been there? Have vacation recs?

Looks like we may be going to Petoskey MI for a family vacation this summer. The in-laws spend summers at a KOA there. DH has been there because he has dropped off the kids to stay with his folks for a few days - but I've never been. I don't want to stay at a KOA - I prefer a cottage/cabin or B&B. Suggestions on where to stay? What's there to do there from DH and I?

My inlaws have a house in a resort community right outside of Petoskey. The resort community is called Bay Harbor and I believe that there is a hotel in the community (run by Marriott I think) and they rent vacation homes there. It is planned upscale community on the water - yacht club, equestrian club, etc.

There are lots of cute B&Bs in Petoskey, but I just don't have any experience with them.

We also really like the town of Charlevoix - it is about 15 mins from Petoskey and right on the water as well.

Northern Michigan is absolutely gorgeous. I am actually jealous that you're getting to go this summer. I used to live nearby. You will find plenty of B&Bs, but you will want to get your reservations in early.

I honestly think that Northern Michigan is one of the most beautiful places in America. If you have time, drive over to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and up the Leelanau penninsula. The wines there are wonderful, as are the cherries (choc covered dried cherries!).
