What would you do for neighbor who cleared your driveway?

We are new to the neighborhood. A really nice neighbor came over with his snow blower while my husband was shoveling. He said he doesn't mind doing it anytime there is a storm. I feel like we should get him something, but I know nothing about him. Any ideas? Gift card?

Another idea is to offer another type of service as an exchange later on- like watch their pets when they're out of town, or something like that.

Chances are your neighbor doesn't expect anything in return. My parents live in a snowier city where this kind of thing is normal. If a neighbor is injured, or out of town, sick, etc., they help each other out.

Back during those horrible storms in February 2010, a neighbor helped me shovel. Dh was out of the country on business at the time, and I was home by myself with several small kids--so it was GREATLY appreciated.

I made some baked goodies and had my kids walk them over to his house, with a note for the whole family (as a wife home alone, I felt awkward sending baked goods just to the man!)

Move snow now so it's easier to move snow later.

Yep we always get one shovel in before dark. Then a quick shovel tonight before bed or after it stops snowing.

Just a really heartfelt thank you.

He didn't need to since your Dh was in progress. And you certainly didn't ask your neighbor to help.

Plus, people with snow blowers love walking around wither instantly gratifying snow removal machine. It's a guy thing I suppose.

I think a heartfelt thank you and just being a nice neighbor will suffice!

Totally. My neighborhood does this. Everyone helps out if we're all outside. If I finish my drive, I'll help you with yours. If snow comes on a day when work is not canceled, my retired neighbor shovels my drive so I don't have to do it with my little kids or wait for my husband. He's a good neighbor jugs doing what neighbors do... Be friendly and say thank you and that's all you need to do!

A thank you would be nice but if I were your neighbor some fudge would be fantastic.
