13 month old suddenly sleeping a lot

Anonymous
I am lucky and have had a good sleeper for a while. He was sleeping 11-12 hours per night, plus 2 naps a day at 1-1.5 hours each. But the last week or so, his sleep totals have jumped up a fair bit. He's now sleeping closer to 13 hrs per night and his naps are 2+ hours each. He's had a cold for a couple of weeks, but Dr. confirmed no infections. He's been a little clingy, but is otherwise in good spirits and eating well. I'm attributing the extra sleep it to a growth spurt and am not otherwise too worried, buy my husband is pretty concerned and keeps wanting to wake him up to make sure everything is OK. Anyone else seen this? Am I right that it is probably just a growth spurt and/or his body's recovery from a long yucky virus?

Sounds like a growth spurt to me, too.

My kids were always hungry, sleepy, and clingy during growth spurts!

Agreed, sounds like a growth spurt to me, too. My 21 month old DD just went through a two week period of sleeping A LOT (like 7:30pm - 8:30am and then a 3.5 hour nap) and now no longer fits into the clothes she had been wearing comfortably. Pants that fit her three weeks ago are now too short, I actually find this amazing.

p.s. Tell your husband to relax and enjoy the quiet time you're getting
