Has anyone ever gone to an "integrative" obgyn or one that specializes in "functional medicine"? I am looking for someone who takes insurance and can help me with bioidentical hormones. Will travel to right doctor.

Is this a fishing question to advertise for these yahoos? Go see a real MD with an interest in natural therapies.

I'm 16:03 PP and, no, I am NOT fishing. Am trying to find exactly what you state "an MD with an interest in natural therapies." Not a hormone or menopause "factory" crank, like my integrative MD in another state (unfortunately, we had to move here) advised me to avoid. They are everywhere here, but can't find a REAL integrative/functional medicine type MD.

Will check out restorativehealth.

Does 10:52 have any useful suggestions, since you seem to know that some of these MDs actually exist in the DC area?

Sorry, I have seen things posted that look like sock puppet questions whose true intention seemed to be to get a free advertising plug on this site. I'm an MD, not in your area, but who has seen some horrendous things perpetrated by people who call themselves naturopathic physicians who fleece their customers with worthless supplements (bioidentical hormones are NOT worthless supplements). It hits a raw spot especially when it happens to patients whom I think are vulnerable. Naturopaths in particular have no residency requirements and are licensed and regulated by their own. I find them scary.

Many of us embrace patient desires to be natural, as long as it's not harmful. There are current courses in medical school and certifications in CAM offered to MD's and as we are a multicultural profession, a whole influx of healers with alternative perspectives have added to our collective knowledge. I feel strongly that MD's are trained to be evidence based and can make solid recommendations on natural therapies that are effective.

Good luck.
