How much for built in bookcases?

How much did you pay to get built ins put in and do you think they were worth it?

I am looking at a relatively small project and am torn between built ins and a nice piece of furniture.

At least a few k for a built-in.

Of course a lot depends on size, quality, and finish.

High quality furniture will also cost a few k.

OP, you might consider this alternative. I used two solid wood IKEA bookshelves that happened to fit almost perfectly into the recessed areas on either side of my fireplace. I had my carpenter install molding all around and I painted them. They look built-in for a fraction of the cost.

I'm an interior designer and some of the small built ins I've installed have been about $10 - 15K. So they can be pricey even if small and not too fancy. Another way to go would be to use Ikea cabinetry and have it built in. That could save you a considerable amount so that it's not fully custom.

That's a rip off unless it's a mansion

We paid about 3K for bookcases and cabinets on either side of the fireplace with a mantel and surround.

If you're happy with them, would you share the name of your woodworker? Thank you!

Since no one else is chiming in, I can recommend Chris Forney. He has never done anything for me but he seems to be who everyone recommends on the Hill for built ins. And with all these tiny row houses, everyone wants built ins.

Thanks! Which PP are you, if you don't mind my asking? Hopefully not the i.d. who says hers cost $15k...

If Forney did yours, what kind and how much? Thank you.

Oops, never mind - I just re-read and saw you answered my question in your post. Disregard.
