Does anyone have experience with this summer camp? I understand that the school itself has a terrific reputation, but what about its summer camp? Is it run by the same staff? Is it competitive to get into? Any insight appreciated. Thanks. |
No, the staff is different. A common misconception is that going to NCRC summer camp or Beauvoir summer camp gives you a leg up in admissions that fall. The regular school and summer camp are completely unrelated. For starters, summer camp is first come first served. |
What is the camp like? Staffed by actual teachers or by college and high school kids? How are they w/ kids w/ special needs? |
Can you explain what the basis for your knowledge is? Not to be confrontational, but the website for NCRC clearly says that preference is given to currently enrolled students, etc. I just would like to understand what the basis for your information is. |
are you sure about the staff. i thought many of the staff at the camp came from the school. |
Preference is given to currently enrolled and, I think, incoming students. It is an application process. Beauvoir is first come first served, not NCRC. I think many of the staff are also regular faculty members. One of my children attends NCRC. She will be in camp solely for my convenience at a different school because that is where her older sibling is going for camp. We loved the camp when my older daughter did it, and would have enrolled the younger one last but there was no camp because of the renovation project. |
Staff at the camp is a mix of school-year teachers and others. |
"others" as in Dharma Initiative scientists. So. |
Has anyone sent their child to NCRC's camp even though they weren't a student there? My DS has some special needs (sensory processing disorder) and I didn't think any camp would take him b/c of it. Does NCRC take kids in their camp w/ SN? Or any other camp? Thanks. |
Years ago, a friend send her child to NCRC for summer camp without attending the school there. It was there that they helped identify her child with sensory issues and recommended therapy.
We have done camp there before for our first child and it was like being in regular NCRC school - but with more outdoor activities. We are sending our second child for camp there this summer since he already attends during the regular year. The playground is so terrific there for the under 5 crowd. You can't go wrong! |
To PP: approximately what percentage of the kids at camp don't attend NCRC as a school? The program sounds really great, but I am wondering whether it's worth immersing my child in a program that is different than where he will go for preschool.. Thanks. |
We did NCRC last year and it was a nice change from our daughter's regular preschool. The staff in our 3 yr old's room were all teenagers/college students. It was fun and seemed very well run to us - totally separate from the school and no problem to get into last year, at least |
NCRC didn't have summer camp last year. It was closed for the massive renovation/expansion project. And the counselors are not all teens and college students. You are thinking of another camp, clearly not NCRC. ~Parent of current and former NCRC students and someone who has used the camp before. |
