Elective scar revision

I had emergency abdominal surgery a few months ago and while I'm obviously quite thankful to be alive to bitch about the scar, let's just say it's a real beauty of a scar. I've been told that once things are fully healed I can look into having the scar revised by a plastic surgeon if it still looks terrible.
I assume this wouldn't be covered by insurance if it's purely aesthetic? If I paid for the revision OOP and somehow things went wrong (like an infection), would treatment of the complications also not be covered? (Not sure how cosmetic-procedures-gone-wrong are handled by insurance.)
