| Would you be mad if your DH let your DS, 16, smoke hookah at a family party they were attending because it is part of "their culture"? (DH is Middle Eastern and was raised there.) |
|
Probably not. I don't have a problem with a 16 yo having a glass of wine with dinner, which is part of my culture.
I'd have more of a problem with cigarette smoking; I'd also be cautious about this if your husband smokes cigarettes in addition to hookah. |
| I'd make him wait til 18. My husband's Egyptian and shisha is a huge part of the culture. But I see no reason to let kids do drugs, cigarettes, or alcohol. |
| Yes. That's one sick cultural legacy. I wouldn't support that at all. In fact, I'd be sure to treat DH the same way I treat cigarette smokers: With disdain, mockery, and contempt. |
| Actually, just like wine with dinner, this seems like it might be a nice way of introducing this to your teen...assuming your husband emphasizes moderation. |
You sound like a f--king peach. |
| No problem at all. Many of these people that post are grade A pussies. |
And you know it's a snow day.... |

| I know a lot of people don't care, but it is technically illegal for anyone under 18 to smoke tobacco. While you can give your own kid a glass of wine, you can't let them smoke. |
| It's real easy to make the jump to pot and hash, so no. |

My family is from a culture where hookah may seem "normal" or "cultural." I was not raised with it, and I have always found the vibe to be sketchy.
That said, no I wouldn't be mad. I would talk to my child about why I don't like it. But at 16 I'd have to trust her/him to make good decisions. |
| At 16, I wouldnt be mad. |
| No. I'd be upset if he made a habit of it. |
