| Does anyone know whether each HGC has its own selection committee? Or is selection done by the central MCPS office? I know that they each have their own applicant pool and the decision letters state the median scores of accepted students for the particular center but I was wondering if there were actually separate committees. |
| I believe each Center has its own committee. |
| I've heard that each center has their own selection committee and it is at least partially made up of HGC teachers from other centers. |
| Is it all done in a day? My child's HGC teacher was scheduled to be out for meetings today (obviously not with school cancelled). Wonder if that was for HGC selection. |
| HGC teacher mentioned once that she was part of a committee, so sounds like per school. Not sure if they review all, but just the final set. |
| How do they maintain the same selection criteria with different selection committees? |
it can't be same. in the past, cold spring had slightly higher accepted median score on test. it depends the number of applicants and the available seats, each center has its own. |
That makes sense but I would think that there would need to be some consistency with respect to how much weight to give teacher recs v. scores and that kind of thing. I know that the median scores of accepted students vary. |
| According to the HGC presentation (which is on the MCPS website), the selection is done by the central office and the committee is made up of central office staff. There was no mention of current HGC teachers or anyone else on the committee. I do assume though that they go Center by Center to make the selections. |
