Sometimes a couple days pass without a phone call or visit, and I start wondering what's going on.
I think I miss her company. ![]() ![]() |
Really? I miss my MIL, but that's because she's dead, and she was the sweetest lady in the world. She was my biggest fan. |
I don't miss mine, but it's great that you gained such a wonderful family member, OP! |
In tactical warfare you always want to know the location of your enemy ![]() So, I call her and ask "How are you? Where are you? What are your travel plans?" - EVERYDAY! Does this count? |
lol PP. |
Sorry for your loss, PP. Glad that you have such lovely memories of her. |
Thanks! |
My MIL passed away in 2005, and I miss her. She was a very nice person. |
Wow. I can't believe it's almost 10 years.

My MIL has totally grown on me too, to the point where I actually get annoyed if she stays out of town for long periods of time without visiting! (She has a second home in a different state.) I really would not have predicted this. A huge part of it is that my DS absolutely adores her and she's great with him. |
OP here. This is it for me too. I have always liked my MIL, but we didn't see each other regularly until the kids appeared, and she is thankfully great with them. She plays with them, talks to them, and doesn't undermine our rules/expectations. She's good at reinforcing things she knows are important to us. Sure, there are things she indulges them in some things that I'd rather she not, but overall, she's great with them, and nice company for me. |
Very sorry for your loss, PP. She must've really touched your life in a positive way. |
There are times when I think it would be easier having her closer to us, even though she pushes my buttons and more importantly, pushes DH's buttons which has a lot of spillover effects. If we could have her within walking distance without FIL, and have her days productively filled with other things - like work she enjoys, other grandchildren from SIL, etc then I think we could manage so that MIL isn't 100% focused on us. A 10-25% focus on us would be manageable and mostly pleasant. |
Not one bit. She can stay in Florida and pickle her liver without contact from me. |
WWRKS?
What would Ralph Kramden say? |
