He is 13. The school does a class trip in grade 8. it's a Mon-Fri thing. obviously overnight.
everyone else is going but he says it would be funner to stay home. he isn't happy that the trip is all electronics free. no phones. no Ipad. nothing. I went on this type of class trip and it was a blast. He is willing to go if I make him. would you make him go? |
| I'd be inclined to make him. Of course he won't think he'll like it, but when he gets there, you know he'll have a blast. It'll be good for him. |
| yes, but first I would make sure there is not another reason he doesn't want to go (being bullied etc) |
| Yes, it will be good for him. I went on a class trip in 6th grade and while I wasn't crazy about going, I was forced to come out of my shell and even take leadership roles. |
If this is why he doesn't want to go, I would definitely make him. That's ridiculous. |
good point. I already did some digging and am pretty sure it's just that he isn't into it and he is pretty attached to his phone. |
| remind him that he'll have no one to text bc all his friends will be on the trip! |
| Does he have a best friend in the class? |
| he has a group of friends. there is one that is probably closer than the others. every other kid is going. |
| Yeah, tell him it is a school trip and he has to go. He can spend all weekend on his phone. |
| Yes, I'd make him go. It sounds like he needs a week long break from gadgets! |
| He is going. He is starting to look forward to it. |
| Wow. Please make him go. And take his phone away/ restrict it at other times, because it's good for him. |
| A little (or in this case more than a little) human interaction would be good for him. He should be exposed to the world outside of a small phone screen as well as practice his people skills. |
OP here, he is going, it will be good. I agree |
