School Auctions - projects

What are the creative ideas yo've seen in the past?

The best one I've seen was a canvas partitioned into 5x7 rectangles in which each kid painted a self portrait (the kids were in third grade, I think). It was so great that the winning family lent it back so a photo could be taken of it and the rest of us who were salivating over it could buy prints (for a donation to school, obviously).

I've also seen really cute things done with black and white photos of the kids and decoupage.

The worst ones have a ton of useless items that require storage, think a large painted ceramic platter and 18 dessert plates. Good luck!

The best school auctions I have been to have auctioned off experiences more than items. Tickets to games with a signed Jersey or a seat with special access to pre-game practice. Dinner parties cooked by private chefs. We donate a pair of Redksin tickets (really good seats) and our parking pass (the best part) Boat trips. Vacation houses.I love the self portrait idea -- I may poach it for our auction

If your school has a uniform, get a mom who sews to make it for an American Girl doll.

For very early grades, have kids paint an unfinished bookshelf, then have each family in the class donate a classic children's book.

Avoid HAND PRINT art, please!!!

The best I've ever seen....
A child drew a picture on a big piece of berlap. A very simple picture (not sure how this pic was chosen) and the kids stitched the same color thread as the picture. It was framed and looked great.
