It's colder today and just as icy as yesterday. Why no delay??

Our poor snowflakes will have to brave the cold and ice, oh my!

(I'm trying to point out the sheer stupidity of yesterday's delay. If you argued for the delay yesterday, when temps were ABOVE zero before 9am, you should be howling for it today. Just say in')

Agreed entirely OP.

I agree.

Another day on DCUM, another poster who thinks they would make better decisions than the people who actually have to make the decisions.

To the OP, you seriously need to get a life.

To be bitter about a two hour delay that happened yesterday is so odd.

Compared to yesterday, there has been 24 more hours to treat icy roads and sidewalks.

And there was no melting yesterday so no refreezing.

Less windy, less wind chill?

I agree - but what can you do?
Anonymous
More time to put down ice melt.

As much as I hate delays, I have to think yesterdays was more for getting the busses clear, started and ready to go after the weekend snow. And to let the school staff get in and make sure the walkways were ready when the kids arrived.

Since that was all taken care of, we were good to go today.

Besides last Friday, MCPS has never delayed for cold. I hope they never do again. It is ridiculous. But I did understand Monday's delay.

OP, I thought the same exact thing this morning when I saw a poor girl slip and fall on a huge ice patch right in front of the school.

FTR, I don't think there should have been a delay yesterday or today. Just pointing out that it's winter, there can be ice anytime and it's no reason to close or delay school.

Except, of course, when there is ice on the roads. Then everybody agrees that it is a reason to close or delay school.

I agree. We had a 1st grader tumble hard getting on the school bus yesterday. Ice patches by the bottom of the driveway aren't going away 2hrs later or today. You just have to be careful.

I'm the PP. There was a ton of ice on the roads today. This girl actually fell right at the crosswalk as she was walking into the street. The crossing guard helped her up.

The point is that there is going to be ice in the winter. You can't just close/delay every single day that the temp drops below freezing. Like the PP said, you just have to be careful.
