Green Acres vs WES

Anonymous
We have been accepted to Green Acres and we are waiting to hear back from WES. Overall speaking, how would you rate Green Acres vs WES? Which one do you think is a better school? My husband thinks that the end result is pretty much the same, but it is arrived using different methods at each school. I kind of like the Green Acres laid back environment more than WES, but WES has a lot of pluses.

Who are you closer to? Pick them.

both or pretty much equal distance. it is mostly accademics that i am concerned with.

No easy answer. GA makes me a bit uncomfortable with their approach. I also find the whole staff to be two faced.

WES is more structured and rigorous than Green Acres, and the parents are a little more Chevy Chase clique-ish. There are lots of IMF/diplomat parents also, which means exposure to many cultures for your children. We've liked WES, but they really do expect a lot from very young children.

We definitely do not fit into this kind of a clique, but i am impressed with their accademics. on the other hand, i do agree that they expect a lot. I like the relaxed atmosphere of Green Acres, but i am worried if in the end, the end result is comparable.

Honestly, look at where the graduates go if you are worried about academic rigor K-8. I don't know anything about WES, but it's pretty easy to see where GA kids are accepted by studying the web site. Floundering, unprepared children are just not admitted to, say, GDS in 9th grade. In preK maybe, but not 9th.

This was most reassuring to me, and I learned that my favorite columnist, Frank Rich, went to GA.

Hi - we have children at WES. I have a background in learning and development - although mainly adults. I find this school works well with many different children. For young children, there is so much they are exposed to in a creative environment. I don't find it too academic that scares kids, but develops a great learning environment. The art programme is absolutely amazing. Our child who connects with sports also really connects with art. Teachers are extremely strong, but suspect you would find that at both schools. I have colleagues familiar with Green Acres. I don't know much about the school but they say the loose environment doesn't work with a lot of kids. Personally, my children - although very different from each other in many ways - thrive with structure. WES has enough - but not too much. hope this helps

WES gets into good schools. believe in annual report but you probably can ask school. .

I think of them as such different schools. WES is traditional, academic, solid school. Uniforms, etc. Green Acres is more loosey/goosey and has a reputation for taking kids with some issues-- not nec. a bad thing but that they are more open to quirky kids, shall we say. I think you would know which you are more comfortable with as they really are so different.

would disagree about clique comment every school has some close friend groups thru playdates and seen far far worse. very involved parents overall - but you can find your space too, fair number of working moms, world bank/diplomats etc that give it dimension. ,

WES is a Beauvoir-STA-NCS wanna-be.

Green Acres is a GDS/Lowell wanna-be.

Not bad institutions. Both quite excellent in many ways. But will never make it to the first tier by virtue of their suburban locations.
