In the past, the biggest problems with having a roommate were one who snores, plays loud music, is a slob, etc. Now, how can you be sure they're psychotic.

I guess the college will get him a new roommate now. Sometimes you complain and you don't get a new one.

I'm reminded that I frightened my freshman roommate (or so she joked later) 20 years ago because when she arrived, I was using a box cutter... to break down my shipping boxes.

But obviously, there's a certain degree of trust that's expected, and I don't know how schools could realistically promise parents and students that it's safe for students to close their eyes in the presence of a stranger.

And we used to walk to school five miles in the snow.

Please. First of all the reason this is getting media attention is because its so rare. And, second, nothing that happens now is new. In the old days the biggest problems were not snoring, loud music and messiness.

I don't like to generalize, and only a small proportion of Koreans go psychotic, but raising kids in a very high pressure environment can have consequences.
