Just got yelled at for leaving my kid alone in in the car while I went to the pharmacy

My mom and dad, for that matter, both left me in the car often while they ran errands. No big deal, unless you make it one. I think it is misogyny at play. Notice how vicious the tone gets towards the mom and how you love to verbally attack her. Look deeply into your mirror.

It is misogyny! 80% of the errands done with kids in tow are done by women!

The guard did an excellent job. Good for him.

No, it’s not a “crime”.

What do you call it when something is "against the law" ? Are you trying to be cutesy and call it "non-lawful" or something? Yes, it's a crime.

It’s not a crime.

In Maryland, it is a crime. I don't necessarily agree that it's unsafe at seven, but it is a misdemeanor, so I didn't do it.

Crime implies felony, no? Is speeding a crime?

No, it does not imply that it rises to the level of a felony. What would be the purpose of having misdemeanors if they didn’t matter?

I've never heard somebody refer to a speeder as a criminal.

Yes the world is full of people who are just hoping to stumble upon a 7 year old in a car and kidnap him in order to... wait this story is falling apart suddenly. Why would someone kidnap OP's kid. This doesn't make any sense.

They want the car. But you do know kids are kidnapped and murdered, raed or sold, right,

Cool, so they can't ride their bike unsupervised until lets call it age 16. That's totally healthy.

I left my toddler strapped into his car seat this summer while dropping my eldest off at summer camp. I’d be out of the car for 5 minutes every morning. We also have shades on the rear windows so no one could really see my toddler. Also blasted the AC on the ride so the car was a cool temp.

But yeah, never leave your car running. That’s a recipe for disaster. Also don’t do it for more than 5-10 minutes, especially if it more than 75 degrees outside.

the security guard is not OP's personal babysitter.

Let me gues, OP is low melanin and therefore would be able to sweet talk her way out of the mess

Noone on this board clearly lost a dear friend to the first major car jacking case in Maryland in 1992

I'm a therapist and mostly treat anxiety disorders in kids. Let me tell you the dangers of this neurotic overprotective parenting we have in our country are 1000x worse than leaving your kid in the car while you grab your coffee.

We moved to an area without these neuroses. It’s amazing. Kids bike, boat

I wouldn’t leave a kid in the car running. A pharmacy can take 5-30 minutes so you don’t know how long you’ll be. Honestly at 7 it doesn’t matter if they don’t want to go in, you say sorry thems the rules. You’re luckily the guard didn’t call the cops. Bring a book, a game, something they can do while you wait in line. At age 10 I might feel differently but don’t leave the car on!

My in laws live in the Midwest and there are signs at a local grocery store saying police will be called if you leave a child or an animal in the car.

This is why my pharmacy or choice has a drive thru…
