You could work at Sam's Club and make a dollar more than what substitutes are paid, without any headaches. Or go into babysitting, which pays significantly more.

MCPS did a big recruitment fair during the last fed furlough. They did interviews and fingerprints and spent a lot of man hours. Nobody ended up subbing.

The pay is atrocious, the training is nonexistent, and now the problems with getting paid, when the new timesheet system was adopted, is causing a lot of people to think twice about subbing.
