When there's a budget crisis, of course it makes sense to reduce unnecessary staff. It is cheaper to educate kids in their homeschools than to add VA staff. |
No. When there is a budget crisis the WORST thing you can do is take away services from children. This is really a small drop in the bucket with our multi-billion dollar budget. I mean. Be real. You all are harping on a low-hanging fruit because it’s very front facing and has been a polarizing experience for many. If you truly care about the budget then look at everything. Otherwise you are just parroting empty arguments. |
You must be one of those middle managers demanding everyone is back in the office ))

I am impressed with MVA posters and their posture in this thread. Weird why some people get nasty about school that doesn’t even affect their kids. Although I suspect this is mainly one person posting multiple times. Don’t waste your time on them.
Congrats to you all, it was very moving to listen to your testimonies. So glad MVA is here to stay. And special thanks to the MVA teachers and staff for all their hard work. |
Its not cheaper and many schools are overcrowded. There are lots of ways to reduce spending but MCPS refuses to look at unnecessary spending and has lots of wasteful spending. Getting rid of teachers, para's, etc. is not the way to go. If the reason to close it is kids are not preforming well, they need more staff and support, not less. Just because a struggling child goes in person it doesn't mean they will be more successful. |
Thank you for your support and kind words. It was so nice to see the families and teachers come together. It's a great bunch. Many have worked very hard to build up that community and within hours of putting out a call, so many stepped up to help. |
Here to stay? Tell me you didn’t watch the BOE meeting today without telling me you didn’t watch the BOE meeting |
That’s an incredible testament to the importance and value of this program for those it serves. Well done MVA! It’s wonderful to see people working together to support instead of tear down. |
Wait for more recent data. I think you’ll be surprised

Nothing motivates teachers to help their students cheat... I mean, "learn,"... like telling them they might lose their jobs! |
Maybe your kids cheat, but many others don't. Why are you so negative and nasty? Do you need that much attention? We are happy to give you attention without you having to tear down and bully kids. |
You mean the ones who tell people they don't want to be around their kids? Alright. How about the ones who yell and scream during others testimonies? Yup |
| I don't know what MVA boosters are celebrating. Did you watch the BOE meeting? They are basically just buying time, but made it clear that the only future for MVA is for high school students. So if you have a young child, you should start considering alternatives. You now have over a year to figure it out. That was very kind of the BOE, but your MVA is not going to be the same going forward. |
| I’m glad they gave the younger kids’ families in the MVA a year to find other options. I also hope the system takes a look at why the MVA was needed and uses this time to figure out how to better serve kids who either have health issues, learning challenges, social or emotional challenges, or are getting bullied. The MVA may very well be a catch all at the moment because of a breakdown in other systems, such as home and hospital programming, weak disciplinary processes, loss of other special programs in schools, etc. The MVA, and what works for kids in the MVA, is information that should be captured and applied elsewhere. |
I think that you are failing to see that many of the students in the MVA have significant needs. You are missing that since they are home, there are no transportations costs. Some of these students would require specialized busses or bussing across the county. Since they are accessing a free appropriate public education, they are not fighting for the county to pay for their private school education because in-person public education is not meeting their needs. Please acknowledge that not all students are the same. |
