teacher playing these songs to 8th graders?

I have issues with any music being played while the class is working. My kid will be distracted and needs to concentrate. Kids can use their ear buds if they want to listen to music and the teacher allows this.

As for the content of the song, I don’t care if my 8th grader is exposed to that. He has seen and heard worse. It is inappropriate that it’s being played by a teacher unless it’s the radio version. And even still should not be played for the reason above.

A lot kids focus better with music on, but usually music that’s just instrumental like classical or coffee shop jazz... I’ve had kids request to listen to rainforest sounds too. As long as it’s not blaring loud or full of distracting words (making kids want to sing along or discuss the lyrics) then it’s usually helpful. There will always be a few kids who might prefer no music... but as a teacher sometimes you need to do what helps the majority of your class and music during writing helps most of my students[/b[b]] and we’ve even done votes where most kids raise their hand bc they want music on.

No. The kids that can prefer it can still function without it. The kids who are distracted by it are at a disadvantage. Also, most people who think they do well in multi-tasking are mistaken. Studies with students performing reading comprehension tasks performed better with no music compared to listening to any type of music. Your "vote" is not evidence-based research. Turn off the music, or if you must have it, let kids listen with headphones/earbuds.

If they're listening to Kanye, they're not going to be focused on the subject they're there to learn. That is not educational.

From "Dark Fantasy":

"You ain't got no f****n' Yeezy in your Serato?"
Stupid, but what the hell do I know?
I'm just a Chi-town n***a with a Nas flow
And my chick in that new Phoebe Philo
So much head, I woke up to Sleepy Hollow
Can we get much higher?
***
Look like a fat booty Céline Dion
Sex is on fire, I'm the King of Leon-a Lewis

Sensitive 8th grade girl hates this. Her mom is also sensitive, but consensus here seems to be we are overreacting, and I am prone to that.

This wouldn't be acceptable music or language for a workplace, why would it be acceptable for middle school students?

It's fine.

You’re such a cool parent!!!!

Loser.

I would not be okay with it. If it's a word or expression that they can't say in a normal classroom setting, I wouldn't want them to hear it in a song played by the teacher.

What do you think is going to happen to the kids if they hear this. 8th graders. What is the effect that you're so scared of?
