My husband's grandparents are both Holocaust survivors -- each was the only one to survive in their entire family. After the concentration camps were liberated, they both were sent to the same displaced persons camp. He was 17 and she was 16. They had no loved ones left and spent all of their time together, traumatized and grief-stricken. After they left the displaced person camp, they had to trek across the mountains in Europe. They did that together, and by the time they finally finished their long journey (in Canada), they were married and she was pregnant. That might sound shocking considering their ages, but they wanted to create a family together after losing everyone they loved. They have both passed, but they were married for more than 50 years, and have many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Amazing.

Beautiful story. Bless them.

They hooked up a couple times then ended up spending a week trapped in a city during a snow storm. Day 3 they looked at each other and said you want to give this a go? 15 years later they are a very happy very monogamous married couple.

That’s….not a cute story.

I know of a guy who met his first wife during college orientation, she was sure he was the love of her life, and set about making him hers from day one. They married shortly after graduation a few years into marriage they were in a terrible car accident. They both lived, but he was left without the use of one of his arms and his legs. There were questions of how much long-term care he would need,, how independent he would be, if he would be able to sire children etc. The wife decided that she was unable to provide long term care for him, and wanted an active life with kids so she divorced the love of her life.
Husband was obviously heartbroken. Threw all his energy into recovering. He ended up falling in love with a member of his care team, they got married and now have a ( bio) child. Husband is now able to walk again though with some assitantace and doesn't require a round-the-clock nurse.

Ours is pretty sweet. We met for the first time at marching band summer camp. He kissed me on the bus on the way home. We were 15. He says that I “walked out onto the field and changed his life forever”. We got married at 21, the summer between our junior and senior years in college. We are both 55. Grown kids. DH retires in three months. It’s been a hell of a ride so far. And I think the best is still ahead of us.
