Again, don't be shocked when you get stepped on by the next person up on the ladder. |
I used to volunteer with a social service agency in the area that provides direct support to the homeless and they were very clear in their orientation about being courteous, but also keeping distance and boundaries for your own safety. |
|
Wow, there’s at least one cruel poster here who has it out for homeless people. There is such a thing as karma. |
| I would move hell and high water to get the person to leave. Anyone who says they'd be cool with a vagrant camped out in their lawn is a moron. |
What does this even mean? Like paying 40% of gross income in federal and state tax year after year while billionaires pay nothing and even are able to have Roth IRAs with over a billion dollars? Like getting laid off from your job with no severance while the CEO gets a golden parachute? Like something like that? |
Right, like the ultra wealthy wouldn't have private security hustle the guy along. Homeless encampments are for the lowly middle class to deal with. You unkind person you. |
| I’m a woman and any idiot who is going to tell me I should lean into a situation like this with love is an ignorant man who has never been harassed, threatened, or assaulted. OP, keep your family safe and call the cops. You need to let law enforcement know you will not let this stand. I’ve seen encampments over the past few years somehow become permanent and it’s awful and unsafe for residents and their families and for the unhoused people. Do not sit idly by. |
Dupont currently features people who own $4M homes fighting to have encampments removed. |
| Stay on topic people.... |
You’ve made it very clear you don’t live in and maybe haven’t ever visited DC. Loads of tents in Dupont. Go away. |
Seems to be an influx of trolls from god knows where posting. In another thread someone was legitimately saying that Annapolis was a DC suburb. |
|
From LA and after that failure, sorry, they’ve ruined it for everyone. It used to be just one area, or just one person, who didn’t bother anyone. Today it’s different.
OP, call it in everytime, get your neighbors to do as well, and then up to council. The only places this happens are places that let it happen. No excuses. Tents, RVs, I’ve seen homes near me sit. They can’t rent and can’t be sold because of this. Tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars so yes it is your business. Possibly your safety if this person isn’t just a vagrant, and is mentally ill and violent. If the later cases, you’re not doing them or anyone else any favors. Still feel bad? I guarantee you Boswer doesn’t have this problem. Same with all of the “activists”. |
| Definitely call 311 and any shelters in the neighborhood. Friendship place is so active in ours, but I'm surprised they don't do more proactive "outreach" to the local population. They get a ton of support! |
PP here. It’s the worst. Ruining DCUM, but I digress.. |
+1000 And BTW I had a very close friend who had done outreach to mentally ill homeless people and her advice was the same. By all means contact a social service agency. But also call nonemergency police line. |
