Granted Blair does very well for a small program, but it seems like MCPS could stand to have more programs like that than anything. Even TJ seems too restrictive these days. People would probably be better off if they offered courses like this at any home school. |
Exactly. Take academic superstars and they will remain academic superstars. |
Or, take excellent test takers and they will remain excellent test takers. |
Plus, TJ's average SAT is listed as 1515 in this thread and Harvard's average is 1520, even with the deadweight. |
Just about every HS in MCPS hosts some specialty program. Blair hosts 2 even. I think it's just a different way to do things. For example, there's global ecology at Poolesville or Biomedical Engineering program at Wheaton, the Commuicatin Arts program at Blair, or even the rigorous IB at RM. |
Well you will find better resources in Montgomery County. That’s where the old money is |
But I know a few families moved from MD to VA so their kids can attend TJ. If their kids could make it to TJ, the options for in state colleges are better than MD. I have never met anyone moved from VA to MC for Blair. Signed, a blair parent. |
Ya Blair STEM has higher SATs and pretty much everything but is far smaller and has more competitive admissions so TJ is a better option for most. |
No wonder NJ students flood every college- there are some smart kids (or excellent high schools) there - at least 4 of the top 10! |
Jersey shore is also top notch! |
That’s because they aren’t shooting for schools like UVA. They focus more on HYP. |
As someone who has a degree from UVA in Engineering, I wish I'd known how much better UMDCP was when I went there. UVA is great if you're into French Lit or something but for hard math or CS forget it. |

This certainly shuts the Blair booster. |
All these technology and acedemic application based high schools, and then there’s Jasper High School at 10… A normal public school. |
